Hickory

Hickory, tree (genus Carya) of the walnut family. Commonly found in the eastern United States, the hickory produces edible nuts and strong wood used in industrial tool handles and golf clubs and is used to make top-grade charcoal for smoking meats. The tallest of the hickories, the pecan tree, produces America's second most popular edible nut.
