Heptarchy



Heptarchy (from the Greek for “rule of seven”), the 7 kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon Britain before the 9th-century Danish conquests. The kingdoms, founded by the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes, were Kent, Sussex, Wessex, Essex, Northumbria, East Anglia, and Mercia.
