Hellgrammite

Hellgrammite (Corydalus cronutus), large, brown, aquatic larva of the 4-winged dobsonfly. Hellgrammites live beneath rocks in North American streams and feed upon small water animals. When fully mature, they leave the water, cocoon for a 2-week period, and emerge as dobsonflies. Hellgrammites are widely used as fishing bait.
