Heidelberg



Heidelberg (pop. 136,200), historic city in western Germany, in Baden-Wüttemberg on the Neckar River. Overlooking the city is the ruined castle of the former electors of the Palatinate. Heidelberg has the oldest German university (established 1386). The city is the European headquarters of the U.S. Army.
