Margaret Mary Heckler



Heckler, Margaret Mary (1931– ), U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services 1983–1985, named U.S. ambassador to Ireland in 1985. Prior to these appointments, Heckler served as a Republican member of the House of representatives for 16 years, where she was a strong supporter of women's rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and Medicare reform.
