Hayes, Helen (Helen Hayes Brown; 1900–93), U.S. actress. Beginning her career at age 5, she became one of America's most versatile and admired performers, winning numerous awards for stage, screen, radio, and television performances. Some of her most notable starring roles were in Dear Brutus (1918), Victoria Regina (l936), and A Touch of the Poet (1958). A NewYork theater was named for her.
