Harun al-Rashid



Harun al-Rashid (ar-Rashid; 766–809), fifth Abbasid caliph of Baghdad (r. 786–809) whose empire extended from northern Africa to the Indus River in India. His rule marked the acme of Arab civilization and culture, with an unparalleled flourishing of science and the arts. He appears as a character in many of the stories of the Arabian Nights.
