Joel Chandler Harris



Harris, Joel Chandler (1848–1908), U.S. southern journalist and regional author. His tales of plantation life, many featuring the former slave and folk philosopher Uncle Remus, were based on African-American folklore and written largely in dialect. Some of his most well-known works are The Tar Baby (1904) and Uncle Remus and Br'er Rabbit (1906).
