Harold

Harold, kings of Norway. Harold I or Harold Fairhair (c.860–c.940) was the first king of Norway. He succeeded his father, Halfdam the Black, as king of Vestfold (in southeast Norway) and then unified Norway by defeating contending local rulers. Harold III or Harold Hardrada (1015–66), ruled jointly with his nephew Magnus I (1046–47), and singly after the death of Magnus (1047–66). He founded the city of Oslo. He tried to extend his rule to Denmark and England, but was killed by the forces of Harold II of England during an invasion of England.
