Virginia Hamilton



Hamilton, Virginia (1936– ), U.S. author of children's books. Her novel M.C. Higgins won the Newbery Medal and the National Book Award (1975). In addition to her fiction books concerned with the African- American experience and her collections of black folk tales, Hamilton wrote biographies of notable African Americans for children, including W. E. B. Du Bois (1972) and Paul Robeson (1974).
