William Frederick ‘Bull’ Halsey Jr.



Halsey, William Frederick ‘Bull’, Jr. (1882–1959), U.S. admiral during World War II. After commanding a Pacific carrier division 1940–42, he took command of the Pacific theater. As commander of the 3rd Fleet he helped destroy the Japanese fleet at Leyte Gulf in 1944. He resigned as fleet admiral in 1947.
