Douglas Haig t Earl (1s)



Haig, Douglas, 1st Earl (1861–1928), British commander in World War I, blamed for the misconduct of the Somme and Ypres campaigns (1916–17). Hampered by the hostility of British premier Lloyd George, Haig was denied effective command until 1918, when he displayed far greater generalship.
