Haida, tribe of Native Americans of the Pacific northwest, living primarily on islands off the coast of British Columbia and Alaska. The Haida are known for their large oceangoing canoes and wooden totem poles. They mark important occasions with potlatches, ceremonies of excessive gift-giving.
