The Hague



Hague, The (Dutch: Gravenhage or Den Haag; pop. 445,700), seat of government of the Netherlands, capital of South Holland province, and headquarters of the International Court of Justice. Its Binnenhof palace houses the Dutch legislature. The city was the site of the Hague Conferences (1899, 1907) which were international meetings to discuss rules of war. The Hague has gained a reputation as the city for peace conferences. It is also an educational and cultural center.
