Guarneri

Guarneri, family of violin makers of Cremona, Italy. Andrea Guarneri (1626–98), with Antonio Stradivari, an apprentice of Nicolò Amati, founded the dynasty. His sons Pietro Giovanni Guarneri (1655–1720?) and Giuseppe Guarneri (1666–1739?), and grandson Pietro Guarneri (1695–1762) continued the trade. The most renowned member of the family was the eccentric and experimental Giuseppe Bartolomeo Guarneri (1687–1745), known as “Giuseppe del Jesu,” nephew of Andrea.
