Leroy Grumman



Grumman, Leroy (1895–1982), U.S. businessman and manufacturer who founded the Grumman Aircraft Corporation (now Grumman Corporation) in 1929 and served as its chairman of the board. The Grumman Corporation pioneered the use of retractable landing gear on fighter planes and today produces both military (e.g. F-16) and civilian aircraft, as well as boats, trucks, and other forms of transportation.
