Green Mountain Boys

Green Mountain Boys, group of armed fighters from Vermont who fought in the American Revolution. Formed by Ethan Allen before the Revolution, they raided settlements in upper New York to protest New York's claims to Vermont. During the war they won key victories at Fort Ticonderoga (1775) and Bennington (1777). In 1791 their efforts led to Vermont's admission to the Union as the 14th state.
