Great Dane



Great Dane, large, strong dog developed in Germany in the 1500s and originally used as a boarhound and a guard dog. It weighs from 120 to 175 lb (54 to 79 kg) and is from 30 to 34 in (76 to 86 cm) high at the shoulder. Great Danes have short, thick coats that may be tan, brown with black stripes, black, or blue to white with black patches.
