Arshile Gorky



Gorky, Arshile (1904–48), Armenian-born U.S. painter, pioneer of abstract expressionism. Influenced by surrealism, he began to create abstractions of organic forms (c.1940). He influenced the work of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning.
