Arthur Joseph Goldberg



Goldberg, Arthur Joseph (1908–90), U.S. labor lawyer and public servant. He served as secretary of labor (1961–62), associate justice of the Supreme Court (1962–65), and U.S. representative to the United Nations (1965–68). Goldberg was instrumental in the 1955 merger of the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).
