Godard, Jean-Luc (1930– ), French film director, a pioneer of the “new wave” school with his film Breathless (1959). Godard's imagery and innovative camera techniques in films such as My Life to Live (1962) and Weekend (1967) influenced a whole generation of filmmakers.
