Glockenspiel



Glockenspiel, or bells, pitched percussion instrument, originally a set of graduated bells, but now 2 rows of tuned steel bars on a frame. The bars are hit with hard mallets made of rubber, brass, or steel. The instrument originated in the Netherlands between 1650 and 1700. It became part of the orchestra during the 18th century.
