Glastonbury

Glastonbury (pop. 93,000), town in Somerset County, England. Archeolo-gists have discovered artifacts from prehistoric Iron Age dwellings just north of Glastonbury and have found numerous types of pottery there dating from 60 B.C. According to legend, England's first Christian church was established in Glastonbury by St. Joseph of Arimathea, who was thought to have brought the chalice from the Last Supper to this site. It was also reputed to contain the graves of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere of the Arthurian legends. The town's economy is now supported by tourism and light industry.
