Gland



Gland, in animals, organ that secretes essential substances. Endocrine glands (thyroid, adrenals, and pituitary) secrete hormones into the bloodstream. Exocrine glands secrete substances (perspiration, tears, mucus, saliva) via ducts into internal organs or onto body surfaces.
