Elbert Henry Gary
Gary, Elbert Henry (1846–1927), U.S. lawyer and industrialist, founder of Gary, Ind. He organized the U.S. Steel Corporation and was its chairperson, 1901–27. He promoted good working conditions but opposed unions.
