John Nance Garner



Garner, John Nance (1868–1967), U.S. vice president (1933–41) under Franklin D. Roosevelt. A Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1903–33) and its speaker (1931–33), he was a skillful behind-the-scenes politician. He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1940.
