Margaret Fuller



Fuller, Margaret (1810–50), U.S. critic and advocate of female emancipation. A friend of Ralph W. Emerson, she edited the transcendentalist magazine The Dial, 1840–42. She became literary critic for the New York Tribune in 1844 and in the following year published Woman in the Nineteenth Century. In 1848–49, with her husband, the Marchese Ossoli, she served the revolutionary cause in Italy under Mazzini.
