Gottlob Frege

Frege, Gottlob (1848–1925), German logician, father of mathematical logic. Inspired by the earlier work of Leibniz, he tried to show that all mathematical truths could be derived logically from a few simple axioms. After criticism that his system contradicted itself, he wrote little more. However, his work did influence later philosophers such as Bertrand Russell and Ludwig Wittgenstein.
