George Fox



Fox, George (1624–91), English religious leader, founder of the Society of Friends or Quakers (1652). Although frequently harrassed and imprisoned by the authorities, Fox traveled widely in Europe and North America preaching his doctrine—derived from his conversion experience (1646)—that truth comes through the inner light of Christ in the soul.
