The common red fox (Vulpus fulva) of the Northern Hemisphere is the quarry of British fox hunts; American foxes include the gray fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) and the desert kit fox (Vulpus velox). The Arctic fox (Alopex lagopus) lives in northern tundras and has a white winter coat. The insect-eating, bat-eared fox (Otocyon megalotis) is native to Africa.
