Fort Duquesne



Fort Duquesne, fort built by the French in 1754 near the present-day site of Pittsburgh, Pa. The area was the site of the Battle of the Great Meadows (1754) and other battles of the French and Indian Wars. The fort was burned down by the retreating French in 1758.
