Fargo



Fargo (pop. 153,295), largest city in North Dakota and seat of Cass County. The city lies on the Red River, whose fertile valley forms an important farming region. Iron and steel, glass, canvas, and concrete products are manufactured there. It is a transportation center and the site of North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Science. Founded in 1871 by the Northern Pacific Railway, the city was named after William George Fargo of the famous stagecoach company.
