Eugénie



Eugénie (Marie de Montijo; 1826–1920), empress of the French 1853–70 as wife of Napoleon III. The daughter of a Spanish noble, she was a major influence on her husband and on three occasions was regent in his absence. After his downfall during the Franco-Prussian War, she escaped to England.
