Robert Devereux Essex d Earl of (2n)

Essex, Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of (1567–1601), English courtier, a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I. He acquired fame in European military campaigns, was knighted in 1589, and made lord lieutenant of Ireland in 1599, a post he lost by failing to crush the Earl of Tyrone's rebellion.
