Levi Eshkol



Eshkol, Levi (1895–1969), Israeli political leader, one of the founders of the state, prime minister, 1963–69. Born in the Ukraine, he moved to Palestine in 1914. He helped create the Mapai (Jewish Labor Party) and served as minister of agriculture and minister of finance under David Ben-Gurion. He was prime minister during the June 1967 war with Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.
