Christiaan Eijkman



Eijkman, Christiaan (1858–1930), Dutch pathologist. He discovered that beriberi results from a thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency. He was awarded (with Sir F.G. Hopkins) the 1929 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine.
