Harold Eugene Edgerton



Edgerton, Harold Eugene (1903–1990), U.S. electrical engineer. He revolutionized photography with the invention of the electronic or stroboscopic flash. This light flashes at a fraction of a second's duration, enabling photographs to be taken of an object moving at high speed. Night aerial and oceanographic depth photography were made possible by Edgerton's invention.
