Johann Eck

Eck, Johann (1486–1543), German scholar and theologian. Though advocating church reform, he was a bitter opponent of Martin Luther and the Reformation. He openly disputed with Luther at Liepzig in 1519, influenced the 1520 papal bull against Luther, and presented the Roman Catholic case at the Diet of Augsburg (1530).
