Ebony



Ebony, hard, heavy heartwood of several trees (family Ebonaceae, genus Diospuros) native to equatorial Africa, southern Asia, and North and South America. Ebony can be highly polished and is used for small statues, cabinet work, golf clubs, and the black keys of pianos. The genus also includes persimmon trees.
