East River



East River, strait connecting Long Island Sound and Upper New York Bay. The East River is joined with the Hudson River by the Harlem River and Spuyten Duyvil Creek. The 16-mi (26-km) East River separates the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens from Manhattan and also separates Queens from the Bronx. Seven bridges cross over the East River, and 11 tunnels pass under it.
