Asher Brown Durand



Durand, Asher Brown (1796–1886), U.S. painter and engraver, a founder of the Hudson River School. He made his reputation by engraving John Trumbull's painting The Signing of the Declaration of Independence. He painted realistic landscapes and portraits, and also designed banknotes.
