John Murray Dunmore h Earl of (4t)

Dunmore, John Murray, 4th Earl of (1732–809), British governor of New York (1770–1), Virginia (1771–6), and the Bahamas (1787–96). He launched Lord Dunmore's War (1774) against the Indians. Opposing the rebels, he 3 times dissolved the Virginia assembly (1772–4), but in 1776 an uprising forced him out of Virginia.
