Duccio di Buoninsegna (1255?–1319?), Italian painter, first great master of the Siennese school. Combining Byzantine austerity with French Gothic grace, Duccio's work strongly influenced the development of Renaissance painting. The altarpiece Maestà is regarded as his masterpiece.
