Dravidian



Dravidian, member of a subgroup of the Hindu race, including some 100 million people of (mainly) southern India. They are fairly dark-skinned, stocky, broad-nosed, and commonly dolichocephalic (longheaded). The Dravidian languages are a family of some 22 languages, perhaps the most important from a philological point of view being Tamil, texts which date back to at least the 1st century B.C.
