Richard D'Oyly Carte



D'Oyly Carte, Richard (1844–1901), English impresario. He produced Gilbert and Sullivan's first operetta, Trial by Jury, in 1875. He founded the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company (1878) and built the Savoy Theatre, London, as a stage for works by Gilbert and Sullivan (1881).
