Arthur Garfield Dove



Dove, Arthur Garfield (1880–1946), U.S. abstract painter. Recognized as an early proponent of abstract expressionism, he painted fluid, poetic compositions based on natural forms and created constructions similar to collages. Never a popular success, he was supported by photographer and art dealer Alfred Stieglitz.
