Dorr Rebellion

Dorr Rebellion, armed rebellion led by lawyer Thomas W. Dorr against the government of Rhode Island in 1842. The uprising resulted from opposition to a colonial charter that denied landless people the right to vote. While the rebellion failed, it did help to bring about a new, more democratic constitution in 1845.
