Elizabeth Hanford Dole



Dole, Elizabeth Hanford (1936– ), U.S. politician; wife of politician Robert Dole. She served as secretary of labor in President George Bush's administration until her resignation in 1990. She held administrative positions under presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter, and Ronald Reagan. In 1990 she became executive director of the American Red Cross.
