Diogenes

Diogenes (412?–323 B.C.), Greek philosopher. Contemptuous of his contemporaries and their values, he was nicknamed “the Dog” and his followers the cynics (Greek: kynikos, “doglike”). He abandoned all his possessions, begged his living, and reputedly lived in a tub. Supposedly, when Alexander the Great asked what he could do for him, Diogenes answered, “Just step out of my light.”
