Marlene Dietrich



Dietrich, Marlene (Maria Magdalene von Losch; 1904–92), German-born U.S. actress and cabaret artist. Early in her career she studied acting with Max Reinhardt and acted on the Berlin stage. Her “femme fatale” image originated with her first major film role, the dance-hall girl in The Blue Angel (1930). Her other well-known films include Morocco (1930) and Shanghai Express (1932). She became a U.S. citizen in 1937.
